Samoa 72-4 Greece: Salford Red Devils, Hull FC and ex-Featherstone Rovers men star as Samoa batter Greece

After losing by 54 last week against England, Samoa wanted a response and delivered it with a thumping win over Greece to take their points difference back to being positive.

However Greece did score the try of the game.

Highlights:

Fast start from Samoa
After a disappointing defeat last week against England, Samoa wanted a response and certainly got it within minutes when a lovely weighted kick to the right edge was taken by Penrith winger Brian To’o for a simple score. Another kick, this time taking deflections, gave Samoa their second through Josh Papali’i.

A try made in Super League
After now former Huddersfield Giants star Danny Levi had added to the scoreboard for Samoa, a try made in Super League caught the eye. It started with a Ligi Sao offload, who shines at Hull FC, it freed up Salford Red Devils’ Tim Lafai. He then handed the try onto star play Jarome Luai.

Greece score the try of the game
Against France last week, a chip from ex-Warrington Wolves man Billy Magoulias led to the try of the game and Greece again did the same today. He chipped over to get the ball rolling. Then on the next tackle it was South Sydney Rabbitohs’ Lachlan Ilias who chipped over and was on hand to take the pass back to score the first try of the second half to make it 42-4 after Samoa had scored seven tries in the first half all of which were converted by Penrith’s Stephen Crichton.

NFL magic
In the Rugby League World Cup, we got an American Football flavour when fullback Joseph Suaali’i flicked the ball between his legs for Crichton to score.

Former Fev man gets over
Fa’amanu Brown has been on one hell of a journey which took him through West Yorkshire with Featherstone as he battled injuries and joined the Rovers to get his career back on track. Now at Wests Tigers, he got a try for Samoa tonight burrowing over from hooker.

Levi latches onto offload for second
Speaking of hookers scoring, Levi got his second when he backed up a Oregon Kaufusi bust to take his offload for a try.

Magic Mitisias tackle
It looked like Matt Feagai would score a second when he broke down the left wing only for Greece’s left winger to rush across field and hit him with all his force to nudge him into touch for potentially the best tackle of the tournament.

To’o break leads to Lafai try
Lafai got a deserved try in the final play of the game as Brian To’o bust up the middle of the field offloading to Ligi Sao who found Luai who gave the ball to Lafai to score.
