Sam Tomkins questions Chris Kendall for not sending James Bentley off

Leeds Rhinos star James Bentley was in the thick of it as the Rhinos pulled off an impressive win over the Catalans Dragons on Saturday afternoon in the second half of a Leeds double header and has left Sam Tomkins perplexed.

Inside in the first eight minutes, Bentley dived on a loose ball and copped a hit in the head from Tariq Sims. In the aftermath, Bentley caught Sims with an elbow in the face.

Neither man was sin binned for the instance as Chris Kendall showed some restraint with his cards in a departure from the start of the Super League season.

Bentley continued to be in the thick of it with the second-rower having an altercation at the end of the game with Jordan Abdull. As Bentley and his teammates dragged the former Hull KR man out of the field, Bentley was wrapped up in the arms of Abdull.

He was then flung into the advertising boards and Bentley flung the ball at Abdull in the aftermath.

Speaking on Sky Sports after the game Sam Tomkins was very unhappy with the decision to not send off James Bentley.

He said: “I think he’s saying you’re a very lucky man. He shouldn’t have been on the field. A clear elbow to someone’s head. I don’t know what the referees were thinking in saying that was a play on

“So yeah, I imagine Rohan Smith’s saying, ‘You got lucky, don’t do it again'”

Sam Tomkins went on to add: “I think for every good thing he does, he something stupid. I think that’s his issue. He’s not got consistency. It’s not what he does when he’s got the ball in hand. It’s just that he has these brain explosions regularly.”

Tomkins is a former Catalans player and still has a role at the club moving into the 2024 season.

Well there’s a surprise, Sam (Wigan) Tomkins calling out a Leeds Rhinos player.
Most Leeds fans will still remember what he did in the challenge cup final, yes he got away with it.
Okay after seeing the super slow Sky review of the incident, it doesn’t look good. If you view in real time dose either player make a problem of it?
The thing that enjoys me is calling out a professional player and saying he’s not one of the best. For me I think Sky should look at Sam and his comments and say do we really want someone who is calling out players and saying they are not top end stars, calling the games?
As much as I didn’t like Stevo he never called out a professional player.
Sam should be wear of slander in law.
