It has been announced live on Sky Sports that Sam Tomkins has made the decision to come out of retirement with the two-time Man of Steel winner set to return to Catalans Dragons on a deal until the end of the season.

That was something that Sky Sports’ Jenna Brooks announced live on Sky Sports’ coverage of St Helens versus Warrington Wolves with the Australian cutting to a video of Sam Tomkins where he confirmed the move.

Sam Tomkins called time on his illustrious playing career at the end of the 2023 season with the Grand Final defeat to his former club Wigan Warriors marking the final game on his 16-year career.

During that career, he won three Grand Finals and two Challenge Cups, all of those trophies coming with Wigan Warriors whom he played over 200 games across two spells.

News of his return t playing has now been confirmed by Catalans Dragons as well with the French club releasing a statement announcing his return.

It read: “The Dragons are pleased to announce the return of Sam Tomkins to the Catalan squad until the end of the 2024 season.

“Sam Tomkins, who announced his retirement at the end of last season, has reversed his decision to put on his boots again in the blood and gold jersey.

“The 35-year-old two-time Man of Steel will return to competition.”

Since calling time on his career, Sam Tomkins has moved into punditry but has remained involved with Catalans Dragons in an official capacity. That has seen him continue to work alongside Steve McNamara’s side and he now will officially reunite on the playing field.

His first appearance will be next week when the Dragons host Hull FC at the Stade Gilbert Brutus.

Earlier this season, Tomkins joined the England set-up for the clash against France at the “personal request” of Shaun Wane.
