Sam Tomkins names two Super League legends who should have played NRL including Wigan Warriors man

Sam Tomkins is a two-time Man of Steel winner, a four-time Super League Champion with Wigan Warriors and has also guided Catalans Dragons to their first ever Grand Final doing so last year.

The England skipper also had a crack at the NRL when he left double winners Wigan at the end of 2013 to join the New Zealand Warriors.

After two years, Tomkins returned to Wigan having had a crack at the perceived highest level in the sport.

However, Tomkins believes that plenty of Super League players could easily compete at that level even those who have never tried it.

Speaking on the Big Jim Show, Tomkins said he wished more Super League legends would have had a go at it as he named two players in particular including a St Helens legend.

“I’ve played in the NRL and they’ve got the best players in the world but we have players over here who could compete at that level comfortably,” he said.

“There are players who didn’t go over and I wish they had. You look at Sam Burgess, James Graham, Adrian Morley, these are all players who have gone over to the NRL and done really well and I wish more had tried it because people would give the English players a bit more respect if people like Sean O’Loughlin or James Roby at St Helens had gone over.

“They are legends of rugby league in this country, I believe they could have done the same in the NRL but we’ll never know.”
