Sam Tomkins gives insight in Catalans Dragons dressing room, his thoughts on Hull KR and praises young Dragon

Once again, despite a slow start, Catalans coolly dispatched their opponents this week to cement their place in the top three and keep within two points of Champions St Helens at the top.

They defeated Hull KR 20-8 in a scrappy game at Craven Park and after the game speaking to Channel 4, key player Sam Tomkins reflected on how the Dragons got the win despite trailing 8-0 early and being 8-4 behind at the break.

He gave an insight into the Dragons changing room as well as his thoughts on Hull KR: “To be fair, Steven didn’t jump and shout, it was clear what was wrong. Completion rate was around 55% so nearly half the time we were getting the ball we were giving it back to Hull KR and they’re a team who have effort. If you give them enough opportunities they will hurt you.

“At halftime we were pretty confident that, we probably played one of our worst 40 minutes but it was a try a piece and we were only 8-4 down.”

So, despite Catalans’ worst half of the season in Tomkins view they were able to get the win. A key turning point was Matthieu Laguerre’s intercept try and Tomkins was full of praise for the young centre after the game: “Matthieu is a real talent. His attack is what he’s known for and his defence is what he works on. So to get himself into such a strong defensive position and make that read, that’s not something that comes over night but hours and hours of repetition on the field.

“It’s credit to Matthieu there.”
