Sam Lisone arrived at Leeds Rhinos this week ahead of being a crucial part of their 2023 campaign under Rohan Smith who has worked with in the past.

As with every new signing from overseas, one of the first questions is ‘how much do you know about the club?’ and this was put to Lisone yesterday and on this he revealed two Leeds legends he knew of as they helped inspire his move:

“Big Ali was a cult hero too, probably the only one I knew but I always knew they were a big club and watching Kylie Leuluai, you would always hear about them back in the day.”

It was a current player in David Fusitu’a who helped convince him to join the Rhinos however:

“We talk all the time, it wasn’t a hard decision when I spoke to David I was like ‘I’m coming here.’

“I’m staying with David, helping babysit. Should start a babysitting business.”

“We’ve known each other since I was 13 or 14.”

Lastly he revealed that former Rhino Konrad Hurrell is a good friend but he spoke with members of the 2022 squad rather than Hurrell including Bradford Bulls bound Bodene Thompson:

“Yeah Kornad is a good friend. I didn’t really speak to him but I spoke to Fusitu’a and Bodene Thompson.”
