Sam Burgess sends message to Jazz Tevaga ahead of Super League Grand Final after Wigan Warriors pack comments

Warrington Wolves boss Sam Burgess has sent a message to Wakefield Trinity forward Jazz Tevaga, following his fighting talk to Wigan Warriors last week.

Burgess’ Wire will meet Trinity in the Grand Final on Saturday, in a showpiece event that is set to exceed 70,000 fans.

Looking back before the semi-finals, it is perhaps the most unlikely of fixtures, with both Leeds and Wigan said to be the favourites going into the final four. However, a grind-out win for Warrington and a near perfect effort for Wakefield put both those sides into the big dance, making for an eagerly anticipated Old Trafford event.

Burgess, as well opposide number Daryl Powell, met the media today to preview the fixture, and it was there that the Wolves head coach had his say on Tevaga’s talk.

Wakefield’s pack is renowned for being one of the best in the league this season, and Wire know that they will need to be at their best to defend what is such a strong yet mobile middle unit.

Ahead of the semi-finals, Tevaga told The Yorkshire Post that he wasn’t scared for the Wigan props, and that his Trinity teammates were the best forward in the league.

“I reckon we’ve got a better pack,” he said. “I reckon we’ve got the best pack in the game. I really reckon we do.

“To me, the only threats in their pack would probably be Junior (Nsemba) and Paddy (Mago).”

Whether those comments played a part in Wakefield’s win is unknown, but Burgess has now questioned whether the Samoan international has any statements to make about Warrington.

“They [Wakefield] should be confident, and rightly so,” the Warrington boss told the media. “We’re confident in our pack, and who we are.”

Commenting on Tevaga’s actions specifically, Burgess added: “It added a bit of fuel to the fire, and I wonder if he’s got anything to say this week.

“Everyone wants the players to speak their minds. Good on him, but our boys are pretty confident, too, but maybe we won’t be talking about it too much.”
