Sam Burgess reveals brother’s forfeit after Warrington Wolves beat Huddersfield Giants

Burgess brothers Tom and Sam following the match between Huddersfield and Warrington

Sunday afternoon’s fixture between Huddersfield Giants and Warrington Wolves was dubbed the battle of the Burgess brothers.

That’s because it was the first time that younger brother Tom would be facing his older brother Sam as player vs coach.

Unluckily for Tom, he came out on the losing side, with the Giants going down 20-12 but it also meant a gift for the England international.

Prior to the game, Tom had made a bet against his brother with the loser of the match having to do a bungee jump.

Following the Wolves victory, Sam said: “They best double strap it because he’s looking quite big. Unlucky Tom, you made the bet. And you’ve got to pay it up.”

This battle started on Thursday night during the Wigan Warriors and Leigh Leopards opening clash when Sam was a guest on Sky Sports.

Host Brian Carney shared a video from the Super League launch where Tom had a question to ask his brother.

Tom asked: “Sam, when I was 17, you bought me a bungee jump that I never did. If we beat you in round 1, will you do a bungee jump? Well, will you? Will you do a bungee jump?”

The video was broadcast live to Sam and he didn’t sit on the fence with his reply.

His response was: “Well, I’ll do whatever you want because it’s not happening buddy. Whatever you want. Yeah, I’ll take the bet. I’ll take the bet.”

Now there is evidence of the bet, fans will be eager to see some video footage when the bungee jump happens.

This season is Sam’s second season as head coach at Warrington Wolves and it’s Tom’s first season with Huddersfield, following an 11-year stint at South Sydney Rabbitohs.

The Burgess brothers spent four years at Souths together, along with Tom’s twin George and eldest brother Luke.

Sam admitted that due to the preparation for this game, Tom “didn’t talk to me all week.”

Next up for Sam’s Warrington are Catalans Dragons at home on Friday night.

Tom and the Giants will have a trip to Leigh on Sunday afternoon.
