Sam Burgess appears to have dropped a rather large hint that Warrington Wolves will be signing London Broncos man Oli Leyland.
Leyland has been one of London’s stand out performers in the Super League this season, with the half-back recording 16 assists and touching down for two tries himself in what has been a difficult season for the Broncos.
Of course, with the Broncos due to be relegated from the top flight this season due to their IMG grading, it seems that a number of their current first-team players could be set to move elsewhere and Leyland has already been linked away. The Warrington Guardian have reported that the Londoner is a player who could be on his way to the Halliwell Jones Stadium next season.
At the age of 23, Leyland is someone with heaps of potential in the game, and it seems Wolves boss Burgess has identified that, with the head coach speaking openly about his admiration for the pivot in the build up to this Friday’s Super League clash.
“I like Oli – he’s a great player and he could add something to our team,” Burgess said, per the Warrington Guardian, when asked about the links.
“It’ll be exciting to see him play this week and see if he goes well up against us.
“He played well against us down there a few weeks ago – he’s a great little player and he’s only improved as the year’s gone on. If he was available, we’d be interested.”
London, who have managed to climb off the foot of the table, will be looking to go out on a high this week at Warrington and Leyland will be keen to impress as he looks to put on a show against the side he may well be representing next season. Warrington Wolves have an opening at half-back, too, with the club confirming earlier this week that Josh Drinkwater will be leaving the club at the end of the campaign.
