Round two of Super League is complete and we’ve already learned plenty about a number of clubs. Hull KR, Warrington Wolves, St Helens and Leigh Leopards are the four clubs who boast 100 per cent records and at this point they have to be considered contenders.
Meanwhile, Castleford Tigers, Salford Red Devils, Huddersfield Giants and Catalans Dragons are all pointless after losing their opening two games of the Super League season.
The round started on Thursday as KR recorded a narrow win over Wakefield Trinity at Belle Vue before Wigan Warriors and Warrington ensured they will head to Las Vegas on the back of a win, beating Hull FC and Catalans respectively.
Salford’s stars couldn’t help them to a win over Leeds Rhinos in Greater Manchester, with the Yorkshire side racking up a 32-6 win. St Helens scored nine tries as they battered Castleford Tigers at Wheldon Road before Leigh Leopards saw off Huddersfield Giants on home soil.
Here’s some of the talking points to emerge from the weekend.
Sam Burgess drama
It’s hard to fathom but at this point there is a very real possibility that Warrington will be without their head coach in Las Vegas. News broke last week that the head coach made a dash to the US Embassy in London in an attempt to sort a visa issue and on Sunday, Warrington boarded their Heathrow flight without him.
Visas take time to process and we speak from personal experience on that front, with our journalist visa for the clash in Vegas taking over two weeks to be finalised. Burgess is confident he will be joining his players out in Sin City, though, with the head coach just waiting on the green light from the embassy.
If the process takes longer than hoped, the Wolves could be led by Burgess’ assistants Martin Gleeson and Richard Marshall, who have made the trip.

Normal service resumes
Wigan will have taken plenty of positives out of their opening night loss to Leigh Leopards and rightly so, but they were at their unplayable best on Friday at the MKM Stadium as they swept the floor with the Black and Whites. Jai Field get the Warriors moving early with a try inside the opening few minutes and that set the tone for the rout.
It means that when they board their plane to the USA on Monday, they can do so with a spring in their step, having secured their first league win of the new season. It also makes for what promises to be a tasty match in a fitting setting at the Allegiant Stadium as they attempt to take Warrington’s unbeaten record.
Hull KR win comes at a price
Hull KR had the grit and the mettle required to edge out Wakefield Trinity on Thursday night and maintain their 100 per cent record going into round three. Willie Peters will have seen room for improvement, of course, but he’ll be delighted to see his side sitting pretty joint-top of the table ahead of Thursday’s clash with Salford Red Devils.
However, the result at Belle Vue came at a costly price, it seems, with Mikey Lewis leaving the ground on crutches with a boot protecting his ankle. The half-back damaged the joint in the act of scoring a try for the Robins and tried to carry on with some heavy strapping providing support.
He eventually left the field, though, to leave Rovers without last season’s Super League Man of Steel winner for the final few minutes of the game. As such, the Robins are now facing a nervous wait to find out the extent of the issue, with supporters fearing the worst.
Any lay-off would come as a blow for Peters and given Lewis’ importance to the group, his absence would certainly be felt. To make matters worse for KR, Tyrone May missed the clash at Wakefield with a hamstring problem ensuring they could face Salford without their two starting halves.
