Warrington Wolves head coach Sam Burgess has given an honest but uncertain verdict on his Visa issues ahead of Wire’s trip to Las Vegas.
It was first reported Down Under that Wire coach and NRL legend Sam Burgess was having issues getting his visa to head to the US, where Warrington play Wigan Warriors as part of the NRL season launch next Saturday.
Warrington are due to fly out on Sunday but it’s still unclear whether their head coach will be with them on account of the hold-up in the Englishman obtaining his visa.
Sam Burgess spoke on the matter with Sky Sports before his side took on Catalans Dragons whilst also giving a brief review after the game live on air, however, he said more in his post-match press conference.
Speaking with BBC Radio Merseyside, Burgess admitted that he’s still unsure if he will be on the plane on Sunday, however, he insisted that he’s “confident” he will get there.
“I’m just not sure at the minute, it’s been a bit of a process over the last couple of days,” he revealed, with the Wire coach only just making it back to Warrington in time for the game having been down at the US Embassy in London.
“My visa application now is in for review and it’s been going on for a little while. I respect the process and everyone’s efforts to get it to this point but it’s essentially out of my control at the moment.
“We’ll see what the next 24 hours bring.
“I think I’ll get there, I’m confident I’ll get there. There’s been a lot of work going into it.”

For many it would be a hugely stressful process but Burgess was relatively calm on the matter and ensured to applaud everyone who has been involved in the process.
He said: “I’m okay, it is what it is. The visa application is in now and I’ve been through every stage I can go through.
“I’ve been there (London) in the last 48 hours and everyone has been great at the US Embassy but I understand these things can take a bit more time.”
He added: “Everyone has been brilliant, the NRL, Warrington, the US Embassy have been fantastic, US Border Patrol is the last thing to sign off. I don’t know how much of this I can talk to you about but it is what it is, the process is underway and if I can’t get on the flight on Sunday then lets hope I’m not too far behind the team.
“I’m just going to try and enjoy this win, I’ve not had too much sleep these last few days.”
Asked for his verdict on if he will make it to Vegas, Burgess said: “I think we’ll get there, it’s just taking longer than expected. I don’t know what more I can say, I’ve tried to be honest, it’s in the review process.
“I literally just made the game tonight. We’ll wait and see but we’re pretty optimistic. Everyone seems keen to get an outcome so let’s see how we go.”
He was speaking after an 18-12 win over Catalans with Wire being two from two as they head stateside to face Wigan, something he described as “the best outcome”, whilst there was also positive news on the injury front.
Burgess stated: “It’s the best outcome for us to be in right now so I’m happy with that. It’s much nicer turning up in the morning with the two points.
“I’ve not really spoke to the medical team but no one had to come off for anything which is a good sign.”
Lachlan Fitzgibbon made his long awaited return with Burgess noted: “He wanted to finish the game and he probably could have done but it’s a real heavy track and he did a lot of work in the 70 minutes, I wanted to take that risk away.
