Salford v St Helens: Predicted line-ups and late injury news

It feels like a long time since Salford and St Helens met in the 2019 Grand Final. Saints haven’t changed all that much since then and are currently in search of a third consecutive Super League trophy. Meanwhile, Salford come into this game with nothing to play for. Safe from relegation but never a threat to the top six, the Red Devils should be relaxed.

The Red Devils should be able to play a very strong side and could keep things relatively the same after some encouraging performances in recent weeks. Kevin Brown will make his final appearance before retirement in the halves whilst the backline will remain unchanged after Rhys Williams stepped in on the wing in Joe Burgess’ absence. Seb Ikahihifo and Pauli Pauli could return to the fold to offer some size but don’t count your chickens.

As for the Saints, it’s an opportunity to run with the spine they’re likely to play next season. Jack Welsby will move to fullback due to Lachlan Coote’s suspension whilst Jonny Lomax could be given the opportunity to get some minutes under his belt ahead of the play-offs. The Saints will also turn to a number of youngsters as Kristian Woolf avoids taking any risks. Ben Davies and Josh Simm will come into the centres whilst youngster Shay Martyn will start on the wing. It’ll also be a chance for Josh Eaves and Aaron Smith to prove their worth before the arrival of Joey Lussick next year. Sam Royale will also feature after signing a new deal with the club.
