Salford RLFC make off-field appointment as build up to Championship kick-off begins

Salford Red Devils

Salford RLFC have made a key off-field appointment as they continue preparations for the start of the new Championship season.

Salford are due to get their season underway in a week and a half and, as of yet, the club have not confirmed a head coach or any new signings. Speaking last week, CEO Ryan Brierley confirmed to Serious About Rugby League that 11 signings had been made, with the expectation being that the club secure at least 17 players in time to feature against Oldham on Friday.

The club confirmed Debeau Performance as their kit supplier for the new season over the weekend and they have now appointed a general manager. Marcelle Lock will take on the role as the phoenix outfit continue to build on and off the field.

Lock was an employee of Salford Red Devils and after spending four years in charge of projects and events at the club, she lost her job when the outfit entered liquidation.

However, she has been hired by the new organisation to take on the general manager role, with the decision makers at Salford RLFC making efforts to reach out to those impacted by the loss of the Red Devils.

Marcelle Lock lands Salford RLFC role

“I’m proud to share that I’ve accepted the role of General Manager with Salford RLFC,” Lock wrote on LinkedIn.

“This decision wasn’t one I ever expected to make. Like many others, I was deeply affected by the actions of the previous regime and the consequences that followed.

“It was an incredibly difficult period, and my thoughts remain with everyone, staff, players, volunteers, and supporters who were all, and still are, impacted.

“That said, this is a new beginning.

“The people behind this new entity are genuinely good people. They believe in doing things the right way, with transparency, accountability, and care for the club and its community.

“And, they believed in me and for that, I’m incredibly grateful.

“I cant thank Malcolm Crompton , Mason Caton-Brown , Paul Hancock, Ashley Washington and Ryan Brierley enough, I trust in them wholeheartedly and will work tirelessly to repay that belief.

“I care about this club and its history, I’m enthusiastic and motivated by the opportunity to help rebuild it properly, from the ground up.
This is a fresh start. I’m excited, optimistic, and proud to be moving forward with this group of people.”
