Salford Red Devils youngster talks extension and credits coaching for ‘whirlwind’ rise

Salford Red Devils’ Tyler Dupree has spoken for the first time since his new three-year contract extension after impressing in his first season with the side.

The 22-year-old prop signed from Widnes Vikings but had come through at Leeds Rhinos and with such impressive performances for Salford he was fortunate to receive a call-up for England Knights.

Having come through the youth system at Leeds he ended up making his Super League debut against them in a 23-8 victory.

Dupree has been speaking on his new deal in a video posted by the club’s Youtube channel and he’s clearly excited for year two with the Devils.

“I’m buzzing, I feel like I owe the club a lot as they took a chance on me and helped me fulfil the dream of playing in Super League so I feel like signing  anew deal is the best way to repay them.

“It’s been a whirlwind really, I can’t say there’s a week I’ve not enjoyed. It’s been good to be around a good professional group of lads so it’s just fuel in the fire to develop more.”

Having impressed with Championship clubs Salford took the gamble on Dupree and he went on to play in 13 games for the team after debuting in May.

On his development Dupree said: “I feel like I’ve definitely developed, I feel like I’ve grown more mature, not only in the position but as a person as well and the coaches have really helped me. They’re no-nonsense coaches so if there’s something I need to improve on they’ll tell me straight away and it’s helped me improve which is showing.”

If Dupree is to continue that development Salford will have a real talent on their hands and following his performance for England Knights a senior call-up could be on the cards.
