Hull FC will be determined to get back to winning ways this weekend after being beaten on home soil by Castleford Tigers last time out. The Black and Whites weren’t just defeated, they were outplayed by the Super League strugglers and that defeat will have certainly left a sour taste in their mouths heading into this week.
John Cartwright’s side will be favourites and the rugby league community will be expecting them to put a score on Salford Red Devils. However, Salford have strengthened this week with four loan signings and they’ll be hopeful of at least asking questions of the Black and Whites.
The Red Devils have signed Dan Russell and Tom Whitehead from Warrington Wolves, with Sam Stone going the other way, while Kobe Rugless and Cain Robb have also joined from Hunslet and Castleford Tigers respectively.
Here’s how we think both sides might line up.
Well, it looks a certainty that the four new boys will be included in Salford’s side on Sunday afternoon but what role they play remains to be seen. Dan Russell looks to be the most senior back-rower in the squad and he’ll start, while Cain Robb may well come into the side and play at number nine.
Kobe Rugless can share that role with the Tigers loanee off the bench, while Whitehead looks set to to offer depth from the back-row.
With Kai Morgan included, the youngster can expect to play in the halves alongside Ryan Brierley and that’s a move that could see Esan Marsters return to the back-row.
Hull can be expected to keep things fairly similar despite last week’s disappointment with Cartwright making just one change to the side. Logan Moy is only man to come into the fold and he might come into the 17 with a spot on the bench not out of the question.
With no one returning from injury and the Black and Whites lacking depth, expect their starting XIII to remain unchanged.
