Salford Red Devils star to make Super League switch for 2025

Oliver Partington and Salford Red Devils players against Leeds Rhinos

Salford Red Devils have confirmed that loose forward Oliver Partington will depart the club at the end of the 2024 season when his contract expires with the 25-year-old set to join a Super League rival.

Oliver Partington was among the highest-profile off-contract players at the Salford Stadium with the club’s 2023 Players Player of the Year having spent three years at the club.

He will now depart for 2025 and sign with Catalans Dragons with Steve McNamara’s team winning the race to sign the 25-year-old as they continue to strengthen this week following the signing of NRL flyer Nick Cotric.

Salford Red Devils have confirmed the departure of Oliver Partington with a brief statement posted to the club website as Paul Rowley loses yet another of his star players.

The club posted: “We can confirm Oliver Partington will join Catalans Dragons for the 2025 season, upon the expiry of his current contract.

“Signing for the Reds in 2022 from Wigan Warriors, the 25-year-old has proven a popular character amongst the playing group, being voted Players’ Player of the Year in 2023.”

Oliver Partington Partington to join Catalans Dragons

Catalans Dragons have had a productive week off field with the signing of Nick Cotric from Canberra Raiders in the NRL and they’ve now followed it up with the addition of Oliver Partington.

The loose forward will add plenty to their pack but will also have to fight it out with club captain Benjamin Garcia who had signed a contract extension earlier in the season.

On leaving Salford, Partington said: “I would firstly like to thank Paul, Kurt, Krisnan and all the staff behind the scenes for their efforts in developing me as a player, I’ve really enjoyed my time with them.

“I would also like to thank the lads I’ve played with over the past 2 years they’ve been class, I’ve made some friends for life.”

Speaking to his new club Catalans Dragons, Partington explained: “I am grateful to have the opportunity to sign for a great club like the Dragons. I can’t wait to join this club and meet the team and the fans. I would like to thank all the staff and players at Salford for helping me develop as a player and as a person over the last two years.”

His future head coach Steve McNamara added: “Ollie is a superb signing for the club. He is a very competitive young player who brings a lot of aggressiveness. He knows how to combine his physical attributes with his agility with the ball. This is the type of player that other players love to play with.”
