Salford Red Devils star Brodie Croft makes honest admission on his future following Super League deal

Salford Red Devils are in a handy position going into the second-half of the 2022 Super League season.

Though sitting outside the play-offs, the Red Devils are just four points behind sixth-placed Castleford Tigers and have wowed audiences this season with a very expansive and exciting style of play.

A great deal of responsibility for that play must go to head coach Paul Rowley – who had never coached in the top flight before 2022 – and the signings he made.

Marc Sneyd and Brodie Croft are two of those players, with the latter joining from NRL side Brisbane Broncos and the former from Hull FC.

But, it is Croft that is being talked about greatly in Super League circles considering the impact he has had on the Salford outfit so far and it’s perhaps unsurprising that he was coy about returning to the NRL one day, though he wants to live in the present.

“I would never say no or close the door or anything but I’m not looking too far ahead either,” Croft told theĀ Out Of Your League podcast.

“When I was at Melbourne I thought I was going to play my whole career there.

“I spent four years there and moved to Brisbane and then I thought that would be it and I would finish my career at Brisbane. That was my mindset and it didn’t happen.

“Now that I’ve come over here, I’m on a two-year deal at the moment, but I’m not looking anywhere past that and I’m focusing on the now and whatever happens can happen with the enjoyment I’ve brought back to my game.”

Asked if he was enjoying it more than what he thought, Croft admitted he is: “You could say that, I didn’t want to come over here kicking stones as I knew I had to come here with an open mind.

“But I didn’t think I would get this excitement back like as a kid playing rugby league.”

Salford go up against Catalans Dragons this Sunday afternoon as the Red Devils try and chase down the play-off pack.
