Salford Red Devils sign Wigan Warriors forward on loan

Wigan Warriors

Salford Red Devils have announced the loan signing of Wigan Warriors forward Tiaki Chan ahead of the new Super League season. Chan has already joined up with the Red Devils for the final weeks of pre-season and he could be set for a debut for the club next week when Salford travel to Midlands Hurricanes in the third round of the Challenge Cup.

Chan started his professional career in France with Catalans Dragons, making his debut in 2022. However, he made the switch to join Wigan ahead of the 2024 season, penning a three-year deal with the club.

So far he has made just two appearances for the Cherry and Whites having spent much of last season on loan with strugglers Hull FC. The 24-year-old will look to pick up more valuable game time with Salford, though, and play an important role under head coach Paul Rowley.

“I’m very grateful for the opportunity to link-up with Salford and have enjoyed my first few sessions with the boys,” Chan said after making the switch to the Salford Community Stadium.

“I look forward to meeting the fans and earning my spot in the team!”

Head coach, Paul Rowley added: “We are delighted to welcome Tiaki into the group.

“He adds more competition at both back row and prop and brings added enthusiasm and intensity to practice. I know he is a fantastic character and will be a great addition to this extremely tight group of players and staff.”

Chan, who is the son of former Catalans man Alex Chan and the brother of Melbourne Storm’s Joe Chan, is a France international with two caps to his name. With his contract with Wigan Warriors running until the end of the 2026 season, he’ll be aiming to catch the eye of Matt Peet with his performances in Salford colours.
