Salford Red Devils’ leadership team has sent a defiant message in the aftermath of the latest reports on the club’s financial situation.
It was first reported by Rugby League Live that the Red Devils had requested an advance on their central distribution, with the request believed to be for around £500,000, with a hold-up in Council funding regarding the stadium creating the financial issue.
The club would then dispute aspects of that report but confirmed that a Super League meeting had been scheduled for Monday, allowing rival clubs to consider Salford’s proposal.
Further details of that proposal were then reported by the same outlet including the suggestion that Salford Red Devils were not prepared to sell players to raise funds, citing a decline in season ticket sales in 2023 following the sale of Brodie Croft and Andy Ackers.
Now, in a post on Salford Red Devils official X account, the club’s leadership team have responded with a message of defiance and a change of narrative.
Salford Red Devils respond to latest reports
Captioned as: “A message from our leadership team..”, Salford’s statement began: “Once again, we were surprised to read confidential club information in the press.”
They continued: “Our sport needs less negativity and more focus on the excitement and energy of the Super League.
“While we recognise the complexities of the stadium negotiations and are working closely with Salford Council, the reality of the delay creates ongoing business pressures.
“Behind the scenes, we are working tirelessly and are exploring all options. We are all committed to this club, to our city and to our fans.
“Salford is League territory and we aren’t planning on going anywhere.”
It’s a strong and defiant message that they will be in Super League in 2025 despite their financial woes, whilst also swiping at those involved in the Super League meetings who are leaking ‘confidential’ information to the media.
Such information within the second report included Salford’s stance that they signed players ‘in view of the stadium deal being completed’, something that raised questions.
French international Justin Sangare was announced as a Salford signing on November 12th, just over a week before the Red Devils would call for a meeting to request the advance on their central funding. Sources had asked how Salford could not have been aware of their impending situation.
The club have signed well for 2025 but there are now serious concerns about the club with Monday’s meeting set to prove crucial.
