Salford Red Devils have released a statement following the news that those associated with the club have not been paid today. Players and staff were due to be paid this morning, on the final Thursday of the month, but payroll commitments have not been fulfilled.
It’s the second month in a row that Salford’s players and staff have not been paid on time and while February’s money did eventually arrive with the help of an advance from the RFL, assurances were made regarding March’s pay. New club CEO Chris Irwin outlined his belief that March’s wages would be covered without a hitch when speaking ahead of the club’s Challenge Cup clash with Bradford Bulls.
However, as it stands, he has been proven wrong, and it poses big questions heading into this weekend’s clash with Wigan Warriors and beyond. Earlier this month there were huge question marks about Salford’s game with Castleford Tigers as players refused to play and train until they had been paid.
It remains to be seen how the lack of payment will impact Sunday’s fixture at the Brick Community Stadium, but the club have released a statement to confirm that players and staff have ‘upheld their commitments with professionalism’ while calling on those responsible to so the same.
The statement read: “As many will already know, our payroll wasn’t delivered this morning as scheduled, despite assurances. It remains a difficult situation for everyone at Salford Red Devils.
“Irrespective of this, we, as players and staff have continued to uphold our commitments with professionalism, ensuring the club remains competitive on and off the field. Now, we await the same level of commitment from those responsible for ensuring the stability of our organisation.
“The unwavering support of our fans and partners during this challenging time, is both humbling and inspiring, it makes all the difference to players and staff.”

Yes here we go again, we all know it’s frustrating and what doesn’t help is know all but no nothing Wilkin and Carney will no doubt be jumping on their hobby horses again.
Why don’t the pair of them do something useful and go and jump in the Manchester Ship Canal.
