Salford Red Devils release statement as HMRC case adjourned again

Salford Red Devils have confirmed that their HMRC hearing has been adjourned once more. The Red Devils were in court this morning following a winding up petition that was filed against them by HMRC earlier this year.

The club are thought to owe more than £700,000 to the taxman, with debts continuing to mount during what has been a difficult few months for the club. However, after successfully demonstrating that a bridging loan would be on the way to pay off those debts, Salford’s hearing was adjourned for the first time in June.

And, the same outcome has been reached today, with the Red Devils being given the time they need to put the required finances in place to pay off their debts and get themselves in order. As such, it means that the club can at least finish the Super League season.

However, a third meeting will take place on an unconfirmed date in the not too distant future and another adjournment is unlikely. Should the club be unable to deal with their outstanding debts, administration or even liquidation would be very real scenarios.

A statement released by the club read: “Following today’s HMRC hearing, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to the Courts for granting a further adjournment.

“This positive outcome is a vital step forward and allows Salford Red Devils to complete the remainder of our fixtures this season. It reflects the resilience of the club and the ongoing efforts taking place behind the scenes to secure its long-term future.

“We also want to acknowledge the continued support from everyone connected to the club. Your backing—whether in the stands, in the community, or beyond—remains an important part of what keeps Salford moving forward.

“As we approach the final games of the season, we encourage everyone to get behind the team and help us finish strong—on and off the field.”
