Salford Red Devils have seen their HMRC case adjourned for a fourth time, the club have confirmed in a statement.
A winding up petition brought against the Red Devils is yet to be settled and that’s despite the club’s owners declaring they would have the funds in place to settle their debts within 12 days of the last adjournment.
That statement from the owners came 14 days ago. In it, the ownership group stressed how they were determined to keep the club afloat with fans and local businesses at the heart of their desire to prevent the club from being wound up. They even went as far as to outline their ambition to return to Super League after seeing the club demoted last month.
However, the finances needed to settle the winding up petition and pay their outstanding debts have evidently not arrived. As such, HMRC have adjourned their case until December 3, and if the money still hasn’t arrived, a final decision about whether the club can continue in its current guise will be expected to be made then.
A statement released by the club this morning, read: “We can confirm that the winding-up petition brought against Salford Red Devils and its operating company, Salford City Reds (2013) Limited, by HMRC has again been adjourned to the 3rd of December.
“We fully understand the continued uncertainty this situation brings for everyone connected with the club and sincerely hope for a positive resolution soon.”

If the club is to be saved, the uncertainty certainly is not helpful when it comes to looking ahead to next season, with the Red Devils without a head coach and a squad. Kai Morgan’s departure to Sheffield Eagles on Tuesday evening means just four players remain at the Salford Community Stadium, Nene Macdonald, Esan Marsters, Joe Mellor and Joe Shorrocks are the four senior players still technically contracted, but they have all been linked away.

There are almost no upsides to this except maybe one how much it will annoy the RFL/SL and the laughably named RL Family!
