Salford Red Devils boss Paul Rowley has named four new signings in his 23-man squad to face St Helens this weekend. Salford travel to the Totally Wicked Stadium on Saturday for a pre-season friendly that will also act as Morgan Knowles’ testimonial.
A second string Salford outfit has faced off against Barrow Raiders this month, but this weekend’s contest will be the club’s first and only senior outing of pre-season. It will also be the first time Rowley has seen his side in action since the club’s financial issues came to the fore.
There is hope that a takeover can be completed of course, but as it stands Super League clubs are monitoring the situation closely should Salford have to part ways with players. A host of those involved in Saturday have been linked away over the last few weeks, of course, and it will be interesting to see if such speculation has had an impact.
However, it also looks as though Chris Hill, Justin Sangare, Joe Bullock and Esan Marsters will get their first run outs since joining the Red Devils permanently in the off-season. Salford made five new signings for 2025 but Sam Davis won’t be involved.
It’s a strong side from Salford, with St Helens boss Paul Wellens following suit by naming his strongest possible squad. In fact, Wellens seems to have named every player available to him at present, with a squad of 35 players set to be involved for Knowles’ testimonial.
That includes Kyle Feldt, Tristan Sailor and Lewis Murphy, who all joined the club over the off-season and a raft of youngsters. The squad is enough to give a firm indication that after last season’s injury hit campaign, Wellens is approaching the new campaign with a squad that is in rude health.
