Another Salford Red Devils player has left the club to sign with a Super League rival due to the uncertain financial circumstances.
After Marc Sneyd left the Red Devils last week ahead of their Challenge Cup clash, prop forward Brad Singleton is the latest man to leave Salford with the veteran joining Castleford Tigers.
Singleton was contracted until the end of the season but the Red Devils have allowed him to leave after receiving an undisclosed fee from the Tigers, who have been looking to strengthen their pack after a lacklustre start to the season.
The prop has not been named in recent squads with Salford unable to afford his wages due to their restricted salary cap, meaning that an exit was his only route to playing time and also offers some financial relief for the Red Devils.
Confirming Singleton’s exit, Salford posted: “We can confirm Brad Singleton has joined Castleford Tigers for an undisclosed fee.
“The prop forward made the switch to Salford Red Devils in July 2023, signing a two-and-a-half-year deal after a spell at Wigan Warriors.”
Speaking on his exit, Singleton said: “I just want to thank the players, staff and supporters for everything over the last two years.
“2024 was certainly a memorable one for me; Rowls got us playing an attractive brand of rugby and the atmosphere off the field was unbelievable.
“With the sustainability cap, I couldn’t back involved in the team, so this move will get me back focused on playing my best rugby.
“It’s no secret it’s a turbulent time for the Club at the moment and this move puts family first. I hope the situation is sorted soon for everybody involved.”
Singleton’s new head coach, Danny McGuire, said: “It is great to bring a player of Brad’s quality and experience into the squad. Not only will he be an asset for us on the field, but our young forwards at the club can learn a lot from him. As a grand final winner and a player with over 200 appearances at the top level, we are delighted to have him on board.”
