It’s been a tough start to the season for Salford Red Devils but after picking up their first two points of the Super League season, has the tide started to turn?
After a myriad of problems off the field as well as plenty of team disruption, Salford have finally managed to get off the mark in 2025, following their 23-10 victory over Huddersfield Giants on Thursday night.
Salford Red Devils winger Ethan Ryan was making his first Super League appearance in 2025 after making his comeback from injury in last week’s Challenge Cup win against Bradford Bulls.
Ryan admitted that it’s been tough on the players so far but thinks they’ve stuck together as a team, despite everything going on around them.
Speaking to the club’s media, he said: “Obviously we’ve had a couple of players leave but we’ve got a squad that adapts and finds a role – and find the role well.
“Everyone knows what they need to be doing and that was just a great example of it tonight.
“We had people in places, not that they’re not familiar with, but that they might not have played minutes there until last year.
“So I thought they were great and the half-backs were great, they really set the tone for us.”
He was particularly complimentary of Jayden Nikorima, saying he ‘just showed his danger running the ball’.
He added: “He can play, he can back up and press through the middle to get his rewards under the sticks there.
“He’s becoming a real good all-round player and he’s fitting in really well here.”
Ryan himself hasn’t had the best start to 2025 after missing the season so far with a thumb injury.
He’s been pleased by his progress and is looking forward to contributing to the side as they start to find their feet in 2025.
He added: “I had a couple of ops in pre-season, one expected, one unexpected, so it was just about getting back fit and getting back into the swing of things.
“We built back to game fitness, what I needed to do and it was a thumb injury I had.
“I’m probably not 100% but surely getting there.”
The Salford Red Devils winger is optimistic that his team can turn their season around though as they lifted themselves off the foot of the table.
He finished: “It’s been a bit of a rough start, not one that anybody’s wanted.
“We won in the Challenge Cup last week and got points on the board in Super League so it’s onwards and upwards from here.”
Salford Red Devils’ next match is a trip to Wigan Warriors next Sunday afternoon.

Pity to hear Kevin Brown lining himself along Wilkin & Carney by making comments re. Salford potential new owners. Yes it’s apparently frustrating for all concerned but people who do not know all the facts should refrain from making unsubstantiated comments and in Kevin’s case he should apologise to the Salford CEO for suggesting that he is telling lies about financial details of the potential takeover.
