Tim Lafai has become the latest man to leave Salford Red Devils with the centre confirming his exit on social media this week.
Lafai spent just over three years with the Red Devils after joining the club in time for the 2022 Super League season. The centre made 69 appearances for Salford over three full seasons at the Greater Manchester club.
However, with the club continuing to struggle financially, Lafai has become the latest to leave the Red Devils at the start of the 2025 campaign. His exit is yet to be confirmed by the club, but it comes following the club’s decisions to let Marc Sneyd and Brad Singleton join Super League rivals Warrington Wolves and Castleford Tigers respectively.
Speaking out on social media to confirm his departure, Lafai bid farewell to the club, its staff, his former teammates and the fans.
“Not how I had it planned in my head to end but hey that’s life,” he wrote on Instagram. “To the players and staff I leave with gratitude for the memories, the lessons, and the friendships we’ve built, and to the supporters and fans thank you for all your singing and chants it was always [fire emoji].”

The 33-year-old’s next step remains unclear, but he would be well within his rights to believe he still has plenty to offer as a player after three successful seasons with Salford. The centre scored 10 tries for the club last season as he helped Paul Rowley’s side to finish fourth in the Super League table.
He made two appearances for Salford Red Devils this time around, with his last outing coming in the loss to Hull KR at Craven Park last month. He scored a total of 22 tries for the club during his time there.
Lafai counts Canterbury Bulldogs and St George Illawarra Dragons as former clubs, while he also has 18 caps for Samoa to his name.
