Salford Red Devils have secured the signings of two former Super League players for the final four rounds of the Super League season. The troubled Greater Manchester outfit have added Jack Walker and Isaac Shaw to their ranks and the pair look set to make their first run outs in red this week against Warrington Wolves.
Walker and Shaw complete Paul Rowley’s 21-man squad for the clash, with Jack Croft, who arrived from on loan from Wakefield Trinity earlier this week also included in the fold.
Walker has spent this season with Championship side Sheffield Eagles after being released from his contract at Hull FC at the start of pre-season. The full-back made 18 appearances for the Eagles and in what has been a tough campaign for Craig Lingard’s men, he scored three tries with his most recent score coming in the loss to Toulouse Olympique on August 16.
He was released from his contract in South Yorkshire last week and will link up with Salford for the rest of the season as he bids to earn a contract for next year and beyond. Walker has plenty of Super League experience under his belt having represented Leeds Rhinos, Hull KR and Hull FC and looks set to start at full-back against the Wolves.
Shaw has been without a club since leaving Wakefield Trinity on June 10. The forward made 12 appearances for Wakefield during his time at Belle Vue but failed to force his way into the picture this season and was duly allowed to leave.
He had a trial at Castleford Tigers over the summer but never put pen to paper and like Walker, he’ll be determined to show what he can do and put himself in the shop window with some strong performances for Salford Red Devils.
The pair join a squad that has been boosted by the return to fitness of Jayden Nikorima, but also includes nine loanees with Tiaki Chan, Toby Warren, Dan Russell, Jack Darbyshire, Neil Tchamambe, Louix Gorman, Rowan Milnes Leon Ruan and Croft in the running.
