Salford Red Devils have triggered a clause in Loghan Lewis’ contract to keep him at the club beyond the end of the season. Lewis’ deal has been extended by another year ensuring he will be with Paul Rowley’s side until the end of the 2025 Super League season.
The announcement comes just one day before Lewis is due to make a return to action from a groin injury as Salford take on Leigh Leopards in the first round of the Super League play-offs. The Red Devils will welcome a record crowd to the Salford Community Stadium on Friday night and Lewis will be determined to play a leading role to help the club through to next week’s play-off semi-finals.
Lewis joined Salford on a short-term deal back in May with Salford taking him from Canberra Raiders’ second string. Since then he has made 10 appearances for the club, with the 21-year-old’s energy, enthusiasm and desire to win being clear from the very first moment he stepped onto the Super League field.
The forward has made 812 metres in that time and after winning the club’s Player of the Month award in July, he has also picked up the club’s Hitman of the Year award.
“I’ve obviously loved every second of being at this club during the short time I’ve been here – from the coaches to the boys and the fans,” he told the club after seeing his contract extended.
“The last three months have exceeded any and all expectations I had coming over here, and I am over the moon to run it back again next year.
“Let’s finish this year off with a trophy.”
Should Salford beat Leigh on Friday night, they will face a trip to either Wigan Warriors or Hull KR in the semi-finals of the play-offs next week, with their opponent dependent on who progresses through the other eliminator clash between Warrington Wolves and St Helens.
