Salford Red Devils make loan signing from Super League rivals

Salford Red Devils have made a loan signing as the club looks to flesh out their squad whilst they remain under a restricted salary cap.

Recent weeks have seen the Red Devils name just 17-man squads as opposed to 21-man squads on account of the lack of players they have been able to register.

That has seen them play without an 18th man and they could have done with that on Thursday night when they played Huddersfield Giants as forward Harvey Wilson left the field after failing a HIA whilst Deon Cross and Chris Hill also picked up knocks.

Wilson will now miss this weekend’s game against Wigan Warriors, however, the Red Devils have replaced him in kind by bringing in Castleford Tigers youngster George Hill on an immediate loan.

That move has been confirmed by the Tigers, who earlier today named just a 20-man squad for their game against Hull FC with Hill’s omission a notable one.

Taking to social media, Castleford confirmed the loan move for Hill was part of the deal that saw them sign Brad Singleton, who debuted for the club against Catalans Dragons.

Getting Singleton off their books also helped Salford Red Devils with his exit one of three for key players in recent weeks along with Marc Sneyd and Tim Lafai, the latter being confirmed by club CEO Chris Irwin.

Confirming Hill’s exit, Cas stated: “Castleford Tigers can announce that George Hill has joined Super League club Salford Red Devils with immediate effect.

“As part of the Tigers addition of Brad Singleton to their playing squad, the clubs agreed the one-month loan of Hill to the Red Devils leading through to the end of April.

“Singleton made his Tigers debut at the weekend, and is named again in the squad for their Round 6 fixture on Thursday against visitors Hull FC.”

Hill will be eligible for selection against Wigan on Saturday and is likely to feature. It’s also likely that the club will not be paying his wages so he will not count on their salary cap, as is the case for Wigan loanee Tiaki Chan.
