Salford Red Devils loan out Super League forwards Josh Johnson and Jack Wells

Barrow Raiders have bolstered their pack for the 2021 Championship season, swooping for two Super League forwards.

Johnson and Jack Wells have both joined on a short-term loan deal from Salford.

Johnson already has experience at Barrow, making 22 appearances for the Raiders in 2019 before earning a move to the AJ Bell Stadium where he has gone on to register 25 appearances.

24-year-old Wells made 11 appearances for Salford in 2021 after spells at Swinton Lions and Toronto Wolfpack from the Wigan Warriors academy.

Barrow Raiders players’ director, Andy Gaffney, said: “Due to the close relationship between (Salford head coach) Paul Rowley, Raiders head coach Paul Crarey and myself, Salford have agreed a short term loan agreement.

“When Paul Rowley was head coach at Leigh this arrangement bore fruit in the past with the likes of Chris Hankinson and Joe Bullock playing for Barrow.

“With the limited player availability, particularly with the Walne brothers having to retire, the agreement could prove a lifeline for our club.

“I would like to thank Ian Blease for all his help this week.”
