Salford Red Devils have issued an update on academy player Sam Bradbury after Saturday’s contest with Wakefield Trinity was abandoned due to injury. The Red Devils academy side took on Wakefield at the Salford Community Stadium in what was just their second game of the new season.

However, the game was abandoned after just 50 minutes due to the head injury prop Bradbury suffered. The forward received treatment on the field for a lengthy period of time before being taken to a local hospital to be assessed.

The injury occurred with Wakefield winning 24-8 in Greater Manchester but the scoreline was secondary as both clubs took to social media to with Bradbury well in his recovery.

Salford have since issued an update, with the forward being allowed to return home after undergoing tests and examinations at hospital. The severity of the injury has not been reported at this stage, but the fact he has been allowed home is undoubtedly a positive sign.

It is unknown if the game will be re-arranged to be played again at a later date.

The academy league season is just two games old but five teams remain unbeaten at this point. Huddersfield Giants top the table after beating St Helens on Saturday, while Leeds Rhinos, who thumped local rivals Castleford Tigers on Friday night are second on the same points difference as the Giants.

Warrington Wolves, Hull FC and Hull KR have also won both of their games with the latter edging out Wigan Warriors’ youngsters this weekend.
