Salford Red Devils forward Sam Luckley’s future has finally been confirmed.

The forward played a key role in Salford’s superb season as they reached the Super League semi-finals only to lose to Champions St Helens.

Luckley’s finest moment of the season perhaps came at his spiritual home of St James’ Park where he scored a try against Huddersfield before celebrating in true Alan Shearer fashion before Shearer shared the moment on Twitter.

Luckley has always been a brilliant servant for the Red Devils as a real option at prop, second-row and off the bench providing impact but his time at the club has run its course now that he is headed to a Super League rival.

This is because he has signed a deal to join Hull KR in 2023.

He signs a two-year deal meaning the former Newcastle Thunder man will be at Craven Park until the end of 2024.

He’s the latest in a long line of exciting signings such as the arrival of fellow forward James Batchelor from Wakefield.

On signing for the Robins, Luckley said:

“I’m really excited to get started at Hull KR. I played there for a few games in KR’s Academy so I’m looking forward to coming back and playing in front of those fans.

“I’ve had a great two years at Salford. It was a sink or swim in my mind, I had to prove myself. I think I’ve played well at Salford over this past year. It’s been a whirlwind; I’m looking forward to the next two years and developing further under Willie Peters.

“I’ll bring my own way of playing to our pack, but I also like to learn off other players. It’ll be great to have a wealth of experience around me. The effort areas are important to me. Every time I go out there, I’ll be giving 100%. I can’t wait to get out there now.

“Willie was a big part of my decision. He sounded so passionate for what he wants to do with the club. Hull KR are doing great things at the moment and I wanted to be part of something that was building for the future. The ultimate goal at the Robins will be to make finals and win trophies.”
