Salford Red Devils Director of Rugby opens up on the negotiations to keep star player

Salford Red Devils pulled off some shrewd business when they secured star player Tim Lafai to a three-year deal.

It came after the club exercised an option to extend his deal into 2023 last season but have made a move to ensure the Rugby League World Cup doesn’t leave the club any time.

It is a smart bit of business from the Red Devils as they look to keep together their star studded squad from last season who made it all the way to the semi-finals against eventual Champions St Helens.

Speaking after the signing, Director of Rugby Ian Blease opened up on the negotiations:

“Tim has been a fantastic addition to the group since we brought him to our club. After some negotiations, it’s incredible news that we have agreed to extend his stay with us for three years.

“Tim was outstanding for us in our last Super League campaign; from playing a vital role in our run to the semi-finals, he now has his chance to become a significant player in our history.

“Alongside representing his country at the World Cup, his journey across 2022 is a true reflection of his determination and immense quality as a player. I can’t wait to welcome him back to the fold for pre-season and achieve big things in 2023!”
