Salford Red Devils could be set for stunning takeover by businessman

Salford Red Devils could be set for a stunning takeover by a businessman, according to Sky Sports pundit Jenna Brooks.

Brooks was reporting live at the AJ Bell Stadium as Salford take on Castleford Tigers in Super League tonight and she was able to report some exclusive news.

“Salford businessman Sebastian Gerrard, whose family has ben heavily linked with rugby league in 1960s ad 1970s, has placed a bid to purchase the AJ Bell Stadium which would mean Salford would continue to play at the stadium,” Brooks said.

“He also wants to invest heavily in the club to make Salford a major force in Super League for years to come.”

Salford have been looking to move out of their AJ Bell Stadium ever since it was mooted that rugby union side Sale Sharks and Salford City FC wanted to move in as joint owners.

However, both Sale and Salford City are not prepared to move in until the Red Devils can find a new home.

As such, Salford City, who play in the English League Two, will continue playing at the Peninsula Stadium during the 2022-23 season with talks regarding a proposed move to AJ Bell Stadium still ongoing.

In October 2021, Sharks chief executive Sid Sutton outlined his desire to buy the ground with Salford City to buy the ground but an offer would not be made until the Red Devils found another home – though the football side wants to be in the AJ Bell by 2023.

However, it appears as though the Red Devils could stay at the AJ Bell!
