Salford Red Devils confirm departure of player linked with transfer

Salford Red Devils

Salford Red Devils continue to defy expectations in Super League this season. Paul Rowley’s side are currently sitting pretty in fifth place in the table after 14 games, defying predictions that they would struggle this season.

Recruitment has been at the heart of Salford’s success as they have taken a number of players who have dropped out of other Super League sides’ academy systems and turned them into high quality performers. This has made the Red Devils a target for bigger clubs attempting to poach their talent.

Now, the club has confirmed that one such player will leave the club. They have been a regular in the Salford side this season, and have been linked with a move away from the club. Their contract is set to expire at the end of the season, fuelling rumours of an imminent exit from Salford.

Amir Bourouh has been linked with a move away from the Red Devils next season, with the Halifax-born hooker reported to be on the verge of moving to Hull FC. He has been a regular in the Salford first team this season, following the departure of Andy Ackers in the close season.

However, Salford have now confirmed that Bourouh has left the club on a short-term loan deal. He will spend the next two weeks on loan with the Barrow Raiders in the Championship in an attempt to gain match fitness. A club statement confirming the move reads:

“We can confirm Amir Bourouh has joined Barrow Raiders on a two-week loan.

“The hooker has struggled for fitness after suffering an ankle injury in training and will now be able to gain important match minutes with the Championship side.

“His first test will be a trip to Heywood Road on Sunday afternoon, as the Raiders look to bounce back from defeat against Halifax Panthers, against Swinton Lions.

“Everyone at the club wishes Amir all the best on his loan move.”

Bourouh joined the club from Wigan Warriors in 2022 and has become an important part of their side this season. He has made eight appearances for the Red Devils this season, scoring one try.
