Salford Red Devils captain Elijah Taylor cited for referee incident in St Helens loss

Last night, the Disciplinary Match Review Panel revealed its latest charges and sanctions ahead of the Super League Grand Final this weekend.

It’s safe to say that the results hit the headlines with the rugby league fraternity eagerly debating the results.

St Helens forward Morgan Knowles was, of course, the main talking point given his two-match ban rules him out of the showpiece event at Old Trafford on Saturday evening.

However, there was also an incident within that Salford Red Devils- St Helens clash that was cited after a bizarre moment involving referee Chris Kendall and Salford man Elijah Taylor.

The minutes state: “Referee steps into the player’s path who moderates contact with official.”

It was in the ninth minute when Taylor and Kendall collided into each other with the referee tumbling to the ground.

It is, however, good to see that common sense has prevailed with the incident being a complete accident.

Following the latest round of Betfred Super League, Championship and League One fixtures, the Match Review Panel have issued the following sanctions:

John Bateman (Wigan Warriors) – Grade D Strikes – Refer to Tribunal
Morgan Knowles (St Helens) – Grade B Dangerous Contact – 2 Match Penalty Notice
Jack Welsby (St Helens) – Grade A High Tackle – 0 Match Penalty Notice
Daniel Kirmond (York City Knights) – Grade B Dangerous Contact – 1 Match Penalty Notice
