Salford Red Devils boss Paul Rowley gives contract update & confirms assistant coach will leave club

It’s safe to say that Paul Rowley has been a massive success at Salford in 2022.

The former Leigh boss defied the odds to take the Red Devils to within 80 minutes of the Grand Final in 2022 playing brilliant rugby again on a shoestring budget.

There has, however, been plenty of discussion about what Rowley’s contract situation especially now that their season is over albeit in heartbreaking fashion after a luckless afternoon against a brilliant St Helens side.

However, Rowley eased Salford fans worries by confirming that he and his assistant Kurt Haggerty will still be at the AJ Bell Stadium in 2023 and even hinted that a new deal could be incoming:

“Me and Kurt are contracted for next year but I think the club has recognised we might have done a decent job and might want to do something different with us. So we’re really chilled and really happy with that.”

However he did reveal that his other assistant Danny Orr would be on his way out of the club:

“We’ve been aware that Danny is moving. The biggest compliment I can say is I’d rather he didn’t go but he travels from Cas every morning.”

Rowley has done an amazing job at Salford and you wouldn’t bet against him doing so again in 2023 but it should be remembered the difficulties the club face with Rowley himself pointing them out:

“We’ll rock up and go again and that’s the way it’ll be but no one is going to be coming in with a money tree. By November, December I’ll be moaning about the training pitch again saying it’s not fit for cattle. People forget that but it’s about winning and losing at the end of the day and we lost today.”
