Salford Red Devils and Hull FC men named as Samoa prepare for clash with Greece

Matt Parish will be looking for a response today against Greece after a disappointing loss to England in game one and of course, though expected to win, a victory is a must in order for Samoa to make their way to the quarter-finals.

That loss against England was compounded by three major injuries including a dislocated hip for Catalans star Tyrone May who could face five months on the sidelines.

This led to Parish having to call up players to his squad who he didn’t initially name in the shape of Salford duo Tim Lafai and Ken Sio.

The duo made the Super League Dream Team in 2022, Sio for the second consecutive season after scoring tries for fun, and were unlucky to miss out on the Samoan squad initially.

However, despite being called up to the squad, Sio misses out though Lafai is included in today’s 17 at centre.

Meanwhile Hull FC’s Ligi Sao comes into the side after missing the defeat to England last week.

Furthermore, former Featherstone star Fa’amanu Brown is named on the bench again after missing out last week.

As for Greece, former Warrington Wolves man Billy Magoulias’ interesting positional switch into the halves has been confirmed as he replaces his skipper in the number seven role.
