Salford Red Devils man Ryan Brierley has been awarded a three-month testimonial by the RFL, the club have announced.
Brierley’s testimonial period will get started in January 2026 with Salford set to play in a testimonial fixture for their full-back next January. The news comes as the 32-year-old prepares for his 14th season as a professional player and his fourth campaign with the Red Devils.
Starting his professional career in 2012 with Leigh Centurions, as they were known back then, Brierley has gone on to represent Huddersfield Giants, Toronto Wolfpack, Hull KR and Salford, making 301 appearances in total. He has also collected nine caps for Scotland.
Paul Rowley has been a leading figure throughout Brierley’s career, with the Salford head coach working with him at Leigh and Toronto before the pair were reunited at the Red Devils back in 2022. And, the head coach has paid tribute to one of his most trusted players.
“Hasn’t time gone quickly,” Rowley said about the full-back. “I signed Ryan from Castleford Tigers to Leigh nearly 15 years ago and that’s where our journey for him as a player and for me as a coach began.
“We have supported, trusted, encouraged, laughed and cried together ever since. I may have shouted at him once or twice too, but I’m allowed to, and it was only for his own good.
“From Leigh to Toronto and then home to Salford, Ryan has shared my vision and delivered it for me on the field time and time again on both sides of the Atlantic.
“I’ve seen him grow from a young boy chasing a dream into a successful athlete and the ultimate role model for aspiring young rugby players.
“I’m proud of Ryan and I hope our journey continues in rugby for years to come. Every player or coach will always tell you it’s about the people you meet and the memories you make and in that respect we have both been truly blessed.”
Speaking on the governing body’s decision to grant him a testimonial, Brierley said: First of all, thank you to the RFL and stake holders for granting me this testimonial, it’s certainly humbling, and I feel very honoured to be in acceptance.
“Thank you to the staff and team mates at Salford Red Devils; to be awarded a testimonial at my childhood club is amazing and something I could have only dreamt of as a young fan.
“Most importantly, thanks to the Salford fans for all the support you have given me, I’ve always said you are my people, and I never want to let you down and I know you will support me greatly during this testimonial.”
