Salford Red Devils have added a young prop to their first-team squad for the upcoming 2025 Super League season.

Charlie Glover becomes the fourth prop addition alongside the likes of Chris Hill, Joe Bullock and Justin Sangare, however, Glover comes from within the club’s own system after starring in the Reserve grade over the past three seasons.

The 19-year-old has been promoted to the first-team squad for the upcoming campaign after making his Super League debut in Round 27 in the defeat to Wigan Warriors, a game that saw Paul Rowley rest his first-team players ahead of the play-offs.

Both Salford and Leigh were awarded academy licenses in May this year so the Red Devils will be hopeful that Glover ascending to the first team is the first instance of many following a similar path.

The 19-year-old has represented Wales at youth level but could be set for another taste of senior rugby league in 2025 to add to his one game thus far.

The Red Devils announced Glover’s move into the first-team squad via their social media with an attached statement confirming the news.

It read: “We are delighted to confirm Charlie Glover has made the step up to the first-grade squad.

“The prop forward made his Betfred Super League debut in our Round 27 clash with Wigan Warriors last season, but will now become a permanent part of the set-up in 2025.”

Glover formerly was part of the Widnes Vikings scholarship programme before Salford signing him to their Rising Stars programme in 2020, moving quickly into the Reserves where he has starred for three years.

With pre-season in full flow, Glover has spoken on what it’s like to train with the first-team squad, stating: “I am really grateful and lucky for the opportunity that the Club has provided me to make the step up to the first team,

“It is something I have always dreamed of doing and now to have the chance is really special for me, but the hard work starts again, and I am looking forward to the tough work in pre-season ready for hopefully what is a successful season to come.

“A big thanks to all coaches who have helped me get to where I am from – starting with the Development Academy and then through to Reserves.”

Head coach Paul Rowley added: “Having Charlie join the squad is a clear sign of our Club’s commitment to giving young players a pathway at Salford Red Devils.

“It’s been an exciting couple of weeks as our pathway starts to work on producing a talented cohort of youngsters it’s important that somebody like Charlie stands as a great example of patience, perseverance and sacrifice.

“He’s a pleasure to work with and it’s fulfilling for myself and the club to reward Charlie by giving him the opportunity he thoroughly deserves.”
