Salford Red Devils man Loghan Lewis has revealed all, ahead of a huge play-off eliminator clash against Leigh Leopards this week.
Lewis moved from Canberra Raiders mid-season this year, and has since made ten appearances for the Red Devils.
He was one of the players rested for the final round of the season, where head coach Paul Rowley made 17 changes to his 21-man squad.
Speaking to BBC Radio Manchester, Lewis said about about the changes: “Yeah, it was good for everyone.
“With such a small squad there aren’t many of us so when we get the opportunity to have a break, it’s much needed – especially late in the year.”
His contract was originally just for the remainder of 2024, but there is an option to extend through 2025.
Asked whether he would be staying with the club for next season, he was coy, saying: “I can’t say yet, nothing official has been announced, but I’m just trying to put my best foot forward and show what I can do as a player, do what I can to get the team to the Grand Final and win that Grand Final.”
Ahead of that, however, they have the on-form Leigh Leopards to contend with, and they probably go into the game with an ‘underdogs’ tag.
Asked about this, Lewis said: “We feel like it suits us.
“We don’t really listen to much outside noise, we know what we have inside the group and no matter how many big teams we knock off, we always feel like we’re doubted going into the upcoming game.
“It suits us, suits how we play and we do find motivation from it. We don’t need too much motivation, but if Rowley’s trying to get some energy into the group, then he will mention it a little bit.
“We just love the underdog tag.”
Salford Red Devils man Loghan Lewis talks Leigh Leopards
It’s a local derby when Leigh are in town, with a big crowd expected – and it’ll get close to a sell-out, it seems.
Asked whether that adds another dimension to the game, Lewis said: “Yeah, 100%.
“The stadium, the atmosphere with 3,000 people alone is crazy but I think now we’re reaching 8,000, 9,000, I get excited talking about it, how the atmosphere’s going to be.
“Me personally, I love to get amongst the crowd, bang the drum, but I just feed off the energy, I try to get it to the fans, they give it back and when you’re out there, you hear them chanting all game, it definitely gives you a little bit of a drive.”
With Leigh is such a good place on the field right now, he added: “Yeah, they’re in great form. I feel like we play a similar game, a high-energy game, we go set-for-set, sideline-to-sideline so, we’re probably just expecting a big forward pack, and probably our main goal is to stop that.
