Paul Rowley reacts after Salford Red Devils are shocked by Huddersfield Giants

Salford Red Devils head coach Paul Rowley has reacted following his side’s disappointing defeat at the hands of Huddersfield Giants.

The Giants had only won one of their last ten games, but took the victory courtesy of tries from Sam Halsall and Alex Mellor.

Now, the Red Devils remain in the top six, level on points with Catalans Dragons and St Helens, but this will certainly feel like a missed opportunity to move further away from Leeds Rhinos in seventh.

This would surely have gone down as the shock of the week if Wigan Warriors hadn’t been defeated by Hull FC.

Asked about his side’s performance, a disappointed Rowley said, in the post-match press conference: “We certainly lacked some energy.

“We lacked some punch with our carries and we sat on our heels a lot defensively.

“Yeah, so we certainly weren’t great today, and similar to last week, it was a bit of a similar tale I thought to last week.

“Mentally we’re good, just physically just not as energetic and enthusiastic as we need to be. Huddersfield, in contrast, had a lot of enthusiasm and ultimately, they just got there in the end, so they deserved the win I thought.

He also suggested that injuries had played their part in the defeat, saying:”Obviously we lost a couple last week, but we’ve got a lot of players there playing 80 minutes week in week out who don’t get that chance to have a rest.

So it just takes its toll on you, it’s like a glass of water, just keep filling up and I just think it’s been evident in the last two weeks.”

The Red Devils will look to get back on track when they face Castleford Tigers at home next Saturday.
