Rugby league fans have reacted to the news of financial troubles at Salford Red Devils, from unpaid player wages to not fielding a full-strength squad.
The players, staff and fans have had a tough couple of months, with the eyes of the entire Super League on them. With new owners and players’ wages paid, they’re hopeful that things will finally start to look a little brighter in Salford.
However, that hasn’t stopped rugby league fans from sharing their reactions about the entire Salford Red Devils saga. Here are the best reactions from rugby league fans on our Facebook page and across social media.
Rugby league fans on Salford Red Devils’ troubles
Peter Kathryn Easton Chapman: Totally shocking. Any club from the Championship or League 1 would have had their registration revoked and kicked out. How can the RFL be allowed to pay players wages but the backroom staff still have unpaid wages?
Chris Wake: Whitehaven didn’t get any help along with many other lower-division clubs. Disgusting.
Jim Reddihough: There are supposed to be rules on financial compliance. Why did RFL not know about the situation long ago?
Andrew Bradley: Funny how people always want clubs thrown out etc. As a Wigan fan, we are extremely blessed with players and owners who support the cause. Salford have been a fantastic team on the field for a few seasons with little resources and those teams are as important as ours. Without them, the game itself doesn’t exist. The sport isn’t just three or four clubs that win everything. Hopefully, the NRL will assume control of the competition in the future and bring real organisation and professional conduct on and off the field at all levels, getting real value in endorsements and TV revenue contracts and the players can get a wage that reflects the sport they play. The fans and players at Salford didn’t and don’t deserve punishment for any issues regarding the sale/transfer of the club but it could have been handled much better. With the process ongoing, Super League and IMG must have been aware, surely? Hoping they are sorted and back to playing good rugby again soon, great to watch when they are and are a credit to the league in that respect.
Richard Oggy Stanton: They lost a lot of core fans when they were forced to leave The Willows, due to it not being up to scratch. Two other teams were similar in every way to Salford with their grounds but didn’t have to move. The new ground is away from that core support, transport links are poor and no RL-type pubs/clubs nearby. It’s obvious that the RFL wanted Salford to stay in SL.
Brian Linda Calder: Seems to me, an uneducated opinion, that the league are doing their damnedest to save Salford. The shambles of the cash is exactly that.
Peter Smurthwaite: Don’t know the facts so can’t comment but it does make a mockery of IMG.

Thank you to RL fans sensible and understanding comments, as for the likes of Carney & know all Wilkin fans who think that these two sh1t stirrers are representatives of the RLF, well they’re not. The problems that Salford & RFL are trying to cope with are to with Salford RL and the RFL problems only and are nothing to do with the general public. Hey Carney, Wilkin would you like your private financial details to be plastered all over the news. No ! Thought not, so button it.

What happened when rugby league told the teams to update stadium and facilities or teams would be replaced:Salford did this but the likes of cas wakefield didn’t: the rugby league is biased towards Yorkshire : and as for Beaumont he took his ball home few years ago when it wasn’t going his way
