Salford man describes rival Super League ground as “beautiful” and admits he was surprised the club made big signing

When you look back over the last five years, after St Helens, the next happiest club could very well be Salford Red Devils.

Always written off, the Red Devils have achieved so much in the last few years.

In 2019, the Red Devils they finished third and made it to a first ever Grand Final.

Then in 2020, the Super League campaign was a little less fruitful, but the Devils made it all the way to the Challenge Cup Final.

2021 was a bit of a blip before they made the play-offs in 2022 and made it all the way to the semi-finals.

In 2023, they have kept together a star-studded squad for the new season and are being tipped to make the top four by some.

At the heart of this has been Director of Rugby Ian Blease and he can look forward to some big games in 2023.

As he does, Blease described a rival Super League ground as beautiful on the Trott The Egg podcast:

“Headingley is the best and it is even better now that they have done it up. It is just an absolutely fabulous ground. Headingley is beautiful. The pitch is beautiful.”

Blease may enjoy seeing his side play at a big stadium like Headingley, but he probably loves it when he sees the Red Devils make big signings and admitted he didn’t expect the Red Devils to pull off one of their biggest signings ahead of 2023:

“Ollie Partington would be a good example I think. Did I think that we would get him when we went in for him? No, I didn’t. But we managed to get him and I am so excited to see him in a Salford Red Devils shirt. There is definitely something special brewing in the club.”
