Sky Sports are reporting that Ireland international, and former Warrington Wolves forward, Tyrone McCarthy is linked with a move to Salford Red Devils.
With fellow forward Mose Masoe expected to sign for Hull Kingston Rovers, McCarthy has his eye on a return to Super League and Salford – who have recently signed NRL and New Zealand Warriors legend Manu Vatuvei – are the front-runners for his signature. A deal could happen before the end of this season, according to Sky.
McCarthy has played just three times for St George since signing for them in 2016 after a stint at Hull KR. His most successful spell in Australia came in the Intrust Super Cup for the Northern Pride, where he won the Grand Final and NRL State Championship.
His strong running style will lend itself well in a pack of forwards that have proved hard to handle this season. A top four finish is certainly on the cards and if the Red Devils can get McCarthy’s signature for the Super 8s, they’ll be in an even stronger position to push on and shock their critics.
