Salford favourites for Tigers clash

Ian Watson contract

After losing a compelling clash at Wigan last week Salford have a 2nd chance to get to a play off semi final as they entertain Castleford .

Bookies make the Red Devils around 4/7 to win this in 80 minutes in what should be a very tight encounter . Surely Ian Watson’s side will be a little fatigued after the herculean effort at the DW and the Tigers , who are just happy to be still in with a shout , will be looking to take advantage . Bookies make Cas around 13/8 to win here but the value probably is Castleford getting a 4 point start on the handicap at around even money . I can’t split these 2 , Salford have the much better form with the Wigan game being their 1st defeat in 9 but Cas have the play off experience . I don’t think the win at Warrington will have taken too much out of the Tigers tank and that just about levels the playing field for me .

Surely there won’t be more than a score in this with so much at stake and you certainly can’t rule out the draw at around 16/1 in a game that could go either way . Surely both sides will look to put points on the board so a penalty 1st scoring play looks ok at 5/2 , if you back both sides to half your stake .

Plenty of candidates for man of the match , but my pick in red would have to be Josh Jones , one of the most improved players in Super League ,  at around 20/1 . As for the Tigers this could just be the stage for Paul Mcshane , who’s been a little quiet lately , at 10/1 .

Friday sees a shoot out for Old Trafford between bitter rivals St Helens and Wigan . Even though both sides get a 2nd shot if they lose there is a lot at stake here . Saints have already beaten Wigan 3 times comfortably this year so the pressure is on Wigan to prove they can match the league leaders . I can’t see them beating Saints at Old Trafford if they’ve lost 4 times to them in the league . Yes Warrington proved it can be done in one off games but Wire had pushed Saints in games this season , Wigan have been a long way off . The champions have been on an incredible run of 9 wins from 10 as they changed from relegation to title candidates (Guess who the one side were who beat them on that run ? ) , but on form between the sides you have to say Saints are worthy 4/9 favourites and I think they can win this by around 6-10 points .

The red V also had a week off last week whilst Wigan were battling it out with Salford , who they could well face again next week . You can get 5/2 for an away win if you shop around , but best value for Wigan backers is surely the 11/10 with them getting a 6 point start .

Wigan’s nemesis James Roby would be my man of the match pick at 6/1 , Hardaker at 12/1 would be my pick in Cherry and White .

Winners of the Salford-Cas game play the losers of the Saints-Wigan game next week for the final place in the Grand Final , as always please gamble responsibly .
