Salford add Scotland international

Scotland international prop forward Sam Luckley has signed for Salford Red Devils ahead of the 2021 season.

He has signed a two-year deal with the club.

Luckley was due to sign for Ottawa Aces ahead of the 2021 season, joining from Newcastle Thunder. However, following the Aces’ decision to delay their entry to League One until 2022, he will now appear for the Red Devils.

Luckley said: “I can’t wait for preseason. Doing sessions with the quality of players here at Salford will help bring the best out of me.

“I’ve had insight into that with Scotland, seeing what the top players do and I’m looking forward to spending more time in that kind of environment.

“I’m going to work hard for my opportunities, and I know I need to be consistent throughout the year to put myself forward for a World Cup place.”

Red Devils head coach Richard Marshall said: “Sam is determined to take this opportunity with both hands.

“He is excited to make the step up to this level and playing and training alongside our experienced players in the forwards will help him unlock more of his potential.”
