Saints fans who used flares at Warrington could face prosecution

St Helens will ban the minority of fans who were caught using flares at the Halliwell Jones Stadium on Friday night.

Saints and Warrington have worked closely with local police and say they expect the outcome to result in these fans either being banned from attending club games and/or prosecution.

It is one of a number of flare-related incidents at rugby league grounds this season and Saints will strategically place stewards at upcoming home games to combat the issue.

It reads on the club website: “As part of the Totally Wicked Stadium’s ground regulations, anyone caught bringing smoke grenades or flares into any ground or throwing beer, or any other liquid, risk being banned and reported to the police.”

St Helens next home game is against local rivals Wigan Warriors on Friday 12th July.
