Sacked Gold Coast Titans star Kevin Proctor set to sign for Super League club

Ex-Gold Coast Titans star Kevin Proctor is nearing a move to Super League.

After being sacked and fine $15,000 for a bizarre half-time incident during his side’s half-time loss to the Canterbury Bulldogs at the weekend, Proctor had entered into talks with three Super League clubs.

Proctor, who was fined $20,000 by the Titans and banned for four games in 2017 over a cocaine scandal, took a video of himself vaping in one of the toilets at the CommBank Stadium and even posted it on his own Instagram page with the caption “not the half-time vape.”

The video was posted at 3.17pm, while the Titans-Bulldogs clash was still taking place.

Smoking is banned at all Australian stadia and the Titans have clearly felt this was the final straw for Proctor in a career of indiscretions.

“The Gold Coast Titans have sanctioned Kevin Proctor after being made aware of an incident during yesterday’s round 19 fixture against the Bulldogs,” the club said.

“Proctor has also been released from his commitments with the club for the remainder of the year and will not return to train or play with the squad.

“His actions were in breach of both NRL and Stadium regulations.”

Proctor had been linked with a Super League move in the off-season after it was reported he had been offered to UK clubs and the Daily Telegraph believes the latest indiscretion has ended his NRL career.

The Daily Telegraph had reported that Salford Red Devils, Wakefield Trinity and Hull FC have been in talks with bringing the 33-year-old to the UK top flight for 2023, with Proctor having almost 300 NRL games under his belt, but that it is Salford who are in the driving seat.

Meanwhile, the Titans currently sit bottom of the NRL ladder after just three wins from 18 games, and, with the captain of their side willing to breach such club and competition rules, the culture of the Gold Coast club has been called into question once more.
