Russell Crowe has rubbished claims he is looking to sell his stake in NRL outfit South Sydney Rabbitohs. A Daily Telegraph report on Monday morning suggested that the Hollywood star was looking to part ways with his shares within the club.
Crowe owns 25 per cent of the Bunnies after being part of a 2006 takeover alongside Peter Holmes a Court, which brought an end to a miserable run in which the club finished in the bottom three for five straight years. The deal is said to have been worth around $3 million and he now shares ownership of the club with James Packer, Mike Cannon-Brookes and the Rabbitohs members.
However, this morning’s reports claim that Crowe is now looking for up to $20m for his stake in the club, with the Telegraph claiming that he has been looking for potential buyers both in Australia and overseas.
The 60-year-old, who has supported the club since childhood, has come out to dismiss the reports, though, with a succinct and straight to the point press release.
“Just tell them all it’s bulls— and advise them to enjoy the summer sun,” Crowe said, before posting another message on social media platform X.
“Re SSFC. What would January in Australia be without desperate legacy media conspiracy theories?
“Enjoy the summer sun while it’s there and ignore the trolls. WB [Wayne Bennett] back onboard. A fresh energy about the place. An arrowhead on our intentions.”

Souths welcomed Bennett back to the club after finishing 16th last season in the NRL. Only Wests Tigers finished below them in the league ladder, with just seven wins coming all season long.
As such, the club will be hoping for a more successful campaign in 2025 and have recruited St Helens half-back Lewis Dodd to play scrum-half.
